HEY BOB, WHAT’S NEW??

Well it is spring at Sky Pine Vineyards, (Reg .U.S. Pat. & TM Off.).   Besides sending us rebates checks, the government also granted a federal registration for our name.  How sophisticated?   Not like the old days when Bob was out there planting vines and chasing rabbits.  But a harbinger of what is to come.

The buds are breaking throughout the merlot, cabernet and now the new Canyon block filled with those precious blending grapes: cab franc, petite verdot and malbec.   A new vision and bold idea is about to be born, thanks to our eponymous founder: Bob Dog.

That idea is   BobDog Wines, created in 2007, to add a new dimension to the wine industry.  Think “iconoclastic.”  Think hip, upscale and consumer oriented.  Think irreverent, a little naughty, but “Just for the fun of it!”  That will be BobDog Wines.

We introduce you to someone (a lot of you knew personally, bringing him those table scraps and tasty bits each time you came for a visit), whose countenance was captured by local artist: Marge Grey, vineyard watercolorist here in Sonoma County.  This stylized version of Bob will be our logo and marketing icon.  He already adorns the first vintage to be released this summer.

In addition, there is a new dog in the vineyard.  Meet  R.Bark’R,  the spokesman, (or spokeshound) for BobDog Wines. This crusty, old veteran of the grape industry will bring comments, reviews and a blog to educated, illuminate and perhaps infuriate.  His opinions will be blunt, but precise.  All meant to fulfill a cardinal principal: educating the consumer.

There will be lots more to come, so stay tuned!  We anticipate early summer, the roll out of the new website and vintages, and lots of fun.

As Bob always said:  “Drink a bottle a day.”   And that’s for the sake of the grape grower.   He’ll have to revise that volume upward, now that he becomes a winery, too!  Drink responsibly, and always with friends, family and food.
